Analysis - August 2011 for Everyone

Analysis - August 2011, for Everyone

The Plot Thickens - Big Time

The Bad News

First there was the financial crisis.  Then there were protests, rebellions and civil wars.  The aspects behind these events linger.  So do the events.  They have become a permanent backdrop.

Rather than bring resolution, August's aspects complicate the world's situation.  They will block conclusive action. They will, instead, broaden the range of challenges.  They will also add whole new layers of complexity to our experience. Whole new dimensions of trouble will open up around the globe.

Most especially, August will escalate uncertainty and anxiety. It will also add to the general level of tensions and anxieties.  They will significantly increase mental and emotional turmoil.  Dysfunctional and anti-social behavior will increase.

The Good News

The aspects will prevent outright disaster.  They will generously support workarounds and temporary fixes.

But their support has a stiff price.  We must keep moving forward.  We must seek deeper understanding.  We must build more solid foundations. We must meet strict moral and ethical standards.  No backsliding.

Failure to meet these conditions will bring prompt repercussions. Hopefully, these repercussions will spur prompt course corrections.

Increasing Drama

The good and bad news aspects are pretty evenly balanced, really.  Neither can tip the scales, even though the number and the size of our difficulties will increase.

Inner turmoil could verge on hysteria in some people.  Psychological instability will cause anti-social behavior or outright violence.  But these are the extremes.  Most will only learn of extreme behaviors in the news.  However, prolonged high stress levels, and more, could drive people in your life to their limits.  So be mindful.

For most, more drama, and more intense drama, will complicate life. It will be hard to think clearly or act decisively.   Stress will bring health, relationship, family, work and financial matters to a head.

Inaction

Many important planets are retrograding, moving backwards relative to the Earth. This will amplify stress from all other sources. It will allow the world's stresses to penetrate deeper into our minds. But it will also cause problems in the real world.

Mercury governs communication.  It is retrograde 8/2 thru 8/19.  This will bring delays and endless communication issues. Things will stall while systems are updated and technology is upgraded, or simply breaks down.

Chiron governs healing.  It is retrograde all month. Healing processes of all kinds will be stalled as people must look more deeply into healing issues.

Uranus governs change and technology.  It will be retrograde all month.  Reform at all levels, in all areas, will stall. Technology issues will increase. Planners will have to return to the drawing board.

Neptune governs religious, political and philosophical ideas of all kinds. It will be retrograde all month.  Ideals, ideology, religious and spiritual ideas will cease to inspire and motivate.  People will need to look more deeply into their beliefs.

Pluto governs power of all kinds, including governmental power.  It will be retrograde all month. Governments, administrators, leaders of all kinds will be unable to exercise power effectively.

Jupiter governs uplifting ideas, growth, expansion and wealth of all kinds. Jupiter will be stationary retrograde at the end of the month. Growth and wealth creation of all kinds will stall. Economic efforts will lose steam.

Murphy's Cosmic Law

We frequently experience multiple retrogrades, but the retrogrades of August 2011 are unusually potent.

To understand why August's challenges are so great, we must take a closer look at Mercury.

Mercury will be powerfully placed in one of its own signs, Virgo.

Mercury goes stationary on August 2nd, then it starts moving backward; it goes retrograde.  Mercury will be stationary for one or two days, effectively. It is a big monkey wrench in the works. Generally speaking, and depending on the circumstances, a Mercury station can bring everything to a sudden, chaotic halt.

This time it's much worse, though.  Mercury make its station during a lengthy, 36 hour void of course moon. A void of course moon is a cosmic embodiment of Murphy's law. Longer void of course moons are more powerful, and more disruptive.

Murphy's Law states that if something can go wrong, it will go wrong, and at the worst possible time.  A void of course moon is a time when everything that can go wrong does go wrong, usually unexpectedly. And a void of course moon is the worst time for a Mercury station.

Chaos Squared

The combination of a stationary Mercury and a void of course moon is extremely potent.  The disruptive power of stationary Mercury is multiplied by the disruptive power of the void of course moon.

We need to remember, also, that several other major bodies will already be retrograde.  This will compound the difficulties significantly.  We are talking about a disruption and confusion on a grand scale. The effects of this extreme Mercury station will intensify the entire month worth of retrogrades and aspects.  It is one of those things.

To get some idea of the disruptive power of this combination, consider that Mercury makes its station on August 2nd.  August 2nd is the date on which the US *might* make a catastrophic default on its debt and other financial obligations.

At this writing, I do not know if the US will default.  I am just using that to show the scale of event that a void of course moon with a stationary mercury could cause in this astrological context.

Crumbling Foundations

Another aspect contributes more to the potential chaos. Neptune is the master cosmic solvent.  It will dissolve anything the human mind and heart can create.

In the August chart, Neptune is involved in a big opposition with Chiron, the Sun, Mercury and Venus.

This opposition occupies the 10th house/4th house axis.  That is the axis of structure in all our lives.

The 10th house represents external, hierarchical, traditionally masculine sources of structure.  The 4th house represents internal, psychological, traditionally feminine sources of structure.

This powerful Neptune opposition will weaken and, in some cases, completely dissolve all the things that give structure and order to our personalities, our lives and the countries we live in.

The placement of the moon indicates that people will be fixated on the sudden transformation of the world they thought they lived into something beyond all recognition. This will ensure that stress levels rise in the vast majority.  August’s problems will not occur unnoticed.

The Crazy Factor

Finally, on the downside, the crazy factor is still very strong. Pluto will be contacting the midpoint of Jupiter and Neptune. This will encourage wildly unrealistic thinking.  Arrogance, ignorance and determination will combine to produce dangerously unrealistic schemes in the minds of many, including those with power.

That's in addition to hysteria caused by stress and the craziness unleashed by Lilith and Uranus in Aries. The new sources of stress, the new spurs to crazy thought and behavior, add the already high level of craziness.

Safeguards and Conditional Support

We need to factor August's supportive aspects into our expectations.  The planets seem to want to wake us from our illusions without doing any permanent damage.

There will be support - something of a cosmic safety net in place.  But we need to remember that all of the support in August's charts is highly conditional.  It tends to prevent serious harm.  However, it requires that we stay within reasonable bounds.  It is also designed to make us all keep searching for deeper understanding.

But so many people will be so distracted by the risks and the stresses they feel, most probably won’t realize how gentle the planets are being, compared to what they could be.

Astrology Forecast for August 2011

Astrology Forecast for August 2011

FOR EVERYONE ~ This is not a test. August brings a tumultuous blend of powerful but conflicting influences. People will be overstimulated and wired. But they will need to think things through calmly and carefully.  They will need to address urgent, long-term challenges while they are facing urgent, short-term challenges.  At the same time, events and decision-making processes will slow to a crawl, bringing frustrating delays on all fronts. The upshot is that we will all need to dig much deeper into our own minds and our own hearts.  We will need to find personal strengths that we did not know we had, or that we haven't used recently, if ever.  Most of all, we are being asked to find the courage to follow our own best instincts.

SIGN-BY-SIGN

ARIES ~ Reach out.  There's hardly a kind of challenge that doesn't somehow figure in.  Family, job, health, elder care, finances . . . the whole nine yards.  It's more than one person can handle. The solution is not to do a heroic balancing act, or make a heroic individual effort.  It's more a matter of creating or activating support networks to access necessary resources. The family will rise to the occasion brilliantly. Time is on your side. You can convince others to do what they already know they need to do.

TAURUS ~ Leadership.  It's true.  The challenges are major for all concerned. Stakes are high.  You have definite vulnerabilities. The memory of past failures still haunts you.  You'll have to overcome personal weaknesses, resist old temptations and make others do so, too.  So . . . definitely not a walk in the park. Having said all that, you are uniquely well-placed to provide the motivation and guidance others need to work through all the issues. Help others see the need to pool resources and pull together. Don't try to go it alone.

GEMINI ~ Home field advantage. Tough decisions are being made. The process is messy and hard to watch. And the outcome will significantly affect your bottom line. However, the issues will be familiar; you'll know what moves to make.  And circumstances favor an outcome you can live with. Work hard to suppress your ego and convince others to do the same. You don't have much leverage, by yourself; you must build alliances. Confidence and pluck will overcome confusion and uncertainty.  The non-stop pace of recent months will slow allowing more careful thought.

CANCER ~
Work it out. It's been too easy to put a foot wrong.  Tempers are short. Stakes are high.  Issues are complicated.  And your nerves are wound tight, making a misstep more likely.  Your famous intuition isn't quite up to the job, either.  The past is no guide.  To succeed, you must take a fresh, hands on approach. Work ideas up from scratch when necessary. Events will allow the time you need for a thorough re-think. You need to fine tune long-term financial plans, now. The right partnerships will boost income.

LEO ~ Explore. Whatever the issue - finances, politics, relationships, family, work, all of the above - everything's been in serious flux.  And every move you made seemed to only shake things up more. The planets have just bought you a little time. Things will move more slowly, now. You can experiment, if you are careful.  Higher ups will back you, to a point.  Subordinates will cooperate, mostly.  You can count on Lady Luck, a little. Some of your luck will even rub off on others.  Money will remain fairly tight, though.

VIRGO ~
Pause. Change is at work in financial areas. Events are dissolving old ties.  New experiences are changing your understanding of the world in radical ways. The planets are protecting your interests during all this; you will probably come out of it all much better than you went in.  Others being affected could experience an undesirable outcome, though, setting you apart, perhaps creating tensions. There are no simple, perfect solutions. Things will slow down, soon, giving everyone time to regroup.  Home and family will provide many of the answers you need.

LIBRA ~ Business and pleasure. Librans are carrying a heavy load over slippery, unfamiliar ground this month. Patience and tempers are short, too. High-minded goals are fine when things are simple. When things are this fluid, when you are just feeling your way, it's best to concentrate on what and who is immediately in front of you. A down-to-earth, hands-on, close-to-home approach works best. Mixing business with pleasure will let you meet people and gather information. Powerful people will be supportive, if you are willing to meet their terms. Delays work for you.

SCORPIO ~
Home turf. You are under a lot of pressure and your vulnerabilities are exposed. The situation is unstable and confusing. Dysfunctional, manipulative people are exploiting the confusion. New alliances and support networks must be built amidst this confusion and mistrust.  However, this game is being played on your turf.  It's all second nature to you. Your instincts about what's happening are spot on. Modest efforts on your part will bring surprising benefits. Don't fret over long-term finances. Focus on day-to-day expenses. Take advantage of delays to fine tune your message.

SAGITTARIUS ~ Reconcile.  You know now that your financial future depends on a fair and just financial arrangement. But a financial arrangement can't just look fair, it needs to be fair.  The fairness has to go deep. It must include the complicated, long-term financial stuff - loans, pensions, mortgages, insurance, taxes, etc., etc.  And the things you can't put into words. In other words, your financial arrangement has to be all the things it probably isn't right now. Think of current delays and disorder as a chance to start building such an arrangement.

CAPRICORN ~ Stalemate?  Events seem to be making your expectations irrelevant.  Events are also blocking the changes you thought you would make.  Finances allow some flexibility.  You have a good sense of what will work, temporarily.  So you can patch something together, for now.  But better solutions are needed and they will take much longer.  The planets don't intend to hand you any answers.  They need you to keep looking more deeply within until you discover a way to change the way you think about things. They'll keep pushing until you do.

AQUARIUS ~
Abstract to concrete. Perhaps, in the past, you've kept your ideals inside or presented them in abstract form.  But the planets need a more outgoing, direct interaction between your Aquarian ideals and your real world situation.  Work directly with others to solve day-to-day problems. Turn your abstract ideals into solutions for their concrete challenges. It will bring immediate benefits for all. This isn't a test or a passing phase.  Your input will be needed and appreciated from now on. A serious, thoughtful approach will work better than a playful one.

PISCES ~ Rerouting. Some hasty, half considered choices are now carrying you in a direction you probably don't want to go anymore.  Fortunately, movement is slowing.  The next few months will provide time for a re-think and a course change.  You can also loosen ties with those holding you on your present course.  When things pick up again, the landscape will look very different. You'll be glad you have a plan B. Work and career plans will continue to change and evolve for the foreseeable future.  Pisceans should get used to it.

July 2011 For Everyone - Push Comes to Shove

July 2011 For Everyone

Push Comes to Shove

July's chart probes our personality and relationships, from lifetime partnerships to work relationships, flirtations and casual friendships.

The process of change, the transformational energies so apparent in the larger world, will now deeply affect our personalities and our relationships.  We need to brace ourselves for deeply personal challenges.

There will be electricity in the air. People will be wound up. Nerves will be taught. There will also be excitement over the importance of events and the possibilities emerging. There will be a lot of irritability and impatience, too.  Almost any situation could quickly become very intense.

Along with the general rise in intensity levels, irrational and dysfunctional behavior will continue at high levels.

In the past, we may have overlooked or tolerated irrational or dysfunctional behavior.  In July, this behavior will peak and affect critical areas of our lives, compelling us to confront it.

National and international turbulence will also touch our personal lives and relationships more directly than it already has.

Tender Loving Care Advised

No matter the issue, though, we must use the right approach in July. The planets offer very clear guidance on this point.

Aggressively imposing our own ideas will backfire. The planets are clear on that.

We will need to be cooperative, inclusive and compassionate.  It's harder to go that way, but the planets will reward us generously for doing so and penalize us if we don't.

So, despite the volatility and the occasional uproar, there will be a clear pattern, a safe direction to go in.

Also, people will get just plain lucky breaks.  Reality checks will help keep people on course.

There are deep healing energies at work, too.  They will transform the personal and interpersonal turbulence into an opportunity for healing and a chance to adapt to changing realities.

Those who enter into substantive dialogue and who take an inclusive and compassionate approach will benefit most.

Still, we should not let the potential for planetary support blind us to the inherent difficulty of the chart, especially on the personal and interpersonal level. July will be a challenging month. Those who insist on imposing their own ideas or who emphasize their own narrow self-interest will face all the challenges with none of the benefits.

Murphy's Law, Etc.

We will all feel like agents of change in July.
The need for change will seem crystal clear in our minds. So will the issues. At first, anyway. We will all sense the urgency. We will feel a mandate to act.  We will even feel inspired and confident.

These feelings will communicate themselves directly to all of our important relationships.

We will also feel energized. The clarity and energy will intensify our urge to assert our own ideas. Our first, and probably our strongest impulse, will probably be to impose our will.

However, July's chart works powerfully against blunt self-assertion. Simply imposing our own preferences will block all positive synchronicity. It will subject us, instead, to negative synchronicity.  Everything that can go wrong, will.  There will be no synergy, either. Blocks will arise at every step.  The relationships we try to defend will suffer.  The planets are saying: Don't go there.

Stubbornly, blindly imposing our ideas, will expose our private Achilles heel, also. It will also leave us open to misinterpretation, serious accusation and harmful personal attack. Generally, things will tend to work out for the worst. Those who persist in this path could actually experience mental, physical and emotional debility.

Blunt self-assertion, even, or especially, in regard to our most important relationships, however tempting, however natural an impulse, goes directly against the grain of July's chart.

The Side of the Angels

Instead, July's chart strongly rewards dialogue and cooperation. The planets will solidly support those who consider the needs of others. This support will occur on many levels.

Those who actively - or proactively - consider the needs and expectations of others will generate synergy and synchronicity. They will also see things start to happen for them.

Their ideas will be recognized. Others will be motivated and inspired by their efforts. Coincidence and good luck will step in frequently to lend a hand. Seemingly random events will work in their favor. Unexpected opportunities will spring up. They will sense a deep harmony with the momentum of events. There will be general improvements in their lives.

People who choose this approach will also grow psychologically and spiritually. They will experience deep psychological healing, too.

The outcome will be vital relationships that can withstand the current tests and adapt to our rapidly changing situation.

The rewards for this approach contrast sharply with the disincentives aimed at the self-centered, self-assertive approach. No synergy.  No synchronicity. No recognition and acceptance. Resistance at every turn.

Because the disincentives are clear and the incentives numerous and attractive, many will make the right choices. Their choices will create a momentum that attracts others. And all that will help.

But it is important to realize that , despite the enthusiasm and the momentum, the situation on the ground is likely to remain turbulent, confusing and stressful.

But Not So Fast . . .

It would be nice if it were that simple, really: deal with the stress, identify issues, take an inclusive approach; be a team player and reap the rewards.  However, other elements of the chart seriously complicate the picture.

The forces of change are churning up the deepest layers of our psyche. The forces of change carry a freakish component. They will raise difficult and disruptive psychological and behavioral issues we have suppressed or ignored in ourselves and in others.

Dysfunctional, irrational behavior that we have ignored, tolerated, or simply worked around, will now get directly in the way.  They will come between people. Irrational, even bizarre behavior will occur without warning. They will disrupt progress on important issues and demand to be meaningfully addressed.

In addition, the deepest assumptions underlying our committed life partnerships and family will come into question. Our closest, oldest ties will become fluid and doubt will creep in. The stress testing of relationships we are already will continue, also.

All of this seriously complicates the picture presented above - the movement toward dialogue and cooperative approaches to dealing with issues.

However, the same rules apply. The planets will penalize blunt self-assertion and self-centered behavior.  They will reward those who take an open, inclusive, cooperative approach, even when dealing with bizarre and disruptive behavior, however stressed we are feeling personally.  However strong the planetary support, the challenges remain serious.

Whatever else they do, these influences will profoundly transform our relationships and, indeed, transform the very definition of personal relationship.  There is a distinct gender bendy quality to these vibes.

More specifically, for example, the ongoing re-definition of marriage and family will cross a threshold.  Relationships with friends, neighbors and work associations will also have changed into something different, but also deeper and more meaningful when the smoke finally clears.

Local Effects of Global Events

There are innumerable crises currently unfolding on the global level.  One way or another, one of them will touch our personal lives in July.

The effect will most likely be financial. Economic decisions made by governments, for example, could affect our livelihood or lifestyle. These decisions could require personal sacrifice.  Or they could have difficult mental and emotional effects.

Astrological Footnotes

This analysis is based on a composite chart that combines data for the three moons in July: Solar eclipse, July 1; full moon, July 15; extra new moon, July 30. Have three moons in a calendar month will increase intensity and mental and emotional volatility.

It should be noted that most of the aspects discussed a broad.  That is what makes them survivable.  More exact aspects would be much more difficult to work with. Also, all of the influences are compounded; they include mixed, seemingly contradictory components.  Mutable energy is abundant in the chart, too, adding innumerable layers of subtlety as well as flexibility

Strong Uranus energy, transmitted by Mars near the ascendant in the 1st house. This inclines us strongly to aggressive levels of self-assertion

The Moon, Juno and Saturn in Libra at the bottom of the chart. This sets up penetrating, disruptive dynamic affecting us deeply psychologically and in all our most important relationships

The main opposition in the chart, Mars/South Node/Point of Substance vs. North Node, Part of Fortune and Vertex lies astride the main relationship axis. Note that it directly intersects the psychological axis with its Lilith/Uranus vs. Moon/Juno/Saturn opposition.

Point of Substance and south node near the ascendant and Mars frustrate Mars energies. The urge to unilaterally impose ideas will be very strong, but it will be the wrong thing to do. Bad consequences will manifest quickly.

Part of Fortune, North Node, Vertex in the 6th and 7th house generously reward cooperation. Synergy, synchronicity and recognition will result

Neptune and Chiron feed deeply healing energies into elaborate network of supporting aspects.

Lilith near Uranus near midheaven, both opposing Moon, Juno and Saturn at the bottom of the chart. This introduces an intense, decidedly irrational and dysfunctional element. It projects this turbulence and irrationality deep into our psyches and into our most important relationships

Venus in Cancer in the 2nd house turns lingering Saturn/Pluto/Uranus T-square into a grand square. This brings the world's difficulties home to our relationship doorstep.
