Astrological Analysis - February 2012

The Astrology of February 2012

Leaving Kansas

Prior to April 2011, Pluto in Capricorn took a wrecking ball to many of the world’s economic and political institutions. It knocked our economic and political system into pieces which we haven’t yet been able to put back together.

Beginning in April 2011, Neptune began transitioning into its home sign Pisces for a new cycle of the Zodiac.  This transitional influence put what remained of our institutions in flux; their futures became increasingly uncertain.

Instability, dissatisfaction, dysfunction, uncertainty and outright turmoil has invaded every important area of our lives.  It has also had deep psychological effects on all of us.

By January of 2012, Neptune was busy making sure that conditions in the world “got to us” personally.  It began making all of these new, difficult realities part of an evolving, shared awareness.

In February, Neptune enters Pisces where it will remain until 2026. In February 2012, the deepest foundations of our personal and shared realities will begin to dissolve. Neptune will continue transforming the ongoing economic crisis into a cultural crisis, a crisis of values, a crisis of world views.

In following months, other energies will come to the fore.  March has an especially interesting energetic profile.  But for now, Neptune must remain our focus.

Bridging Past and Future

Neptune mysteriously bridges the gap between ideas, emotions and external realities.  It brings seemingly random events into the embrace of human meaning and purpose.

Neptune’s realm is the place where past, present and future realities meet and blend.  Our higher selves use Neptune’s energies to weave our lives into the flow of future events. Neptune is important in
our unfolding karma. With Neptune now in its home sign, this mysterious energetic process will accelerate.  Karma is coming due.

Neptune Rules - The Great Blurring

In February, Neptune’s power is overwhelming.  February’s chart is all about Neptune.  Neptune overpowers the chart.

The focus of this analysis must be a small, tightly clustered group of bodies in Pisces in the 5th house: Neptune, Pallas and Mercury.

All three are less than a degree and a half apart. Less than half a degree separates Neptune and Pallas. That is a very tight cluster.

Pallas grants the ability to perceive patterns. Mercury grants the power to think and communicate clearly about them.

But Neptune blurs, obscures and dissolves patterns. Pisces, the home sign of Neptune, amplifies and broadcasts Neptune’s pattern- and, in the end, boundary-blurring power.

Clustered so closely together in Pisces, Neptune overwhelms Pallas and Mercury.

Pallas will provide vivid but fleeting, partial glimpses of rapidly changing patterns. Mercury will malfunction, jumbling and scrambling patterns.
We no sooner see a pattern than it blurs or vanishes. All efforts to think or communicate clearly about it are undermined.

This influence will also inject confusion into our thought, our communications, and our day-to-day transactions. At times, our lives could become one big Freudian slip.

This intensely Neptunian influence will affect our behavior, too. We will be more likely to do things that habit or custom might ordinarily have blocked.  Old habits will breakdown.  New, fresh perceptions and unexpected actions will be possible.

The Fifth House  of Fun and Games

This small but potent grouping of Neptune, Pallas and Mercury is in the 5th house, the natural house of Leo and the Sun. The 5th house is the house of friendship, play, creativity, drama and experimentation, among other things.

Fortunately, this rapidly rising tide of confusion and missteps will have a somewhat playful quality, at least at first.

However, Neptune is a polarizing influences.  It supports ideologies and, when people revert to ideology, sharp polarization is inevitable. Beginning in February, the already intense political polarization will accelerate.

Wagging the Dog

This intense Neptunian influence literally and technically dominates February’s chart.

The sign dispositor, pictured above, reflects a topsy-turvy, slightly absurd, but essentially Neptunian chain of command that reflects the 5th house emphasis.

In it, Pluto answers to Saturn, suggesting serious hardship, determination and hard work. Pluto and Saturn both serve gentle, loving Venus.  But realistically, gentle Venus couldn’t begin to govern Saturn and Pluto effectively.

Venus also governs an upbeat Moon and Jupiter combination.  But optimistic Moon and Jupiter can’t overcome the heavy negativity of Saturn and Pluto.

Venus, commanding this mismatched group of planets answers to feisty and impulsive little Mars.  Mars itself is ridiculously miscast as commander of Uranus and the Sun and Venus and the unbalanced powers that Venus supposedly governs.

This unlikely chain of command peters out under Mercury.  The disjoined array of energies turns into talk.  And it’s talk guided by a hopelessly confused Mercury, buried deep in the fogs of Neptune in Pisces.

Neptune is in command at the top of the chart. But, foggy, indecisive Neptune is, to put it mildly, not well-suited to command anything.

This dispositor chart suggests a highly unstable mix of optimism, despair, love, rebellion and idealism.  It points to a turbulent, indecipherable combination of emotions.

The somewhat absurd picture presented by the energy dispositor resonates strongly with the picture presented by Neptune, Pallas and Mercury closely conjunct in the 5th house.

This nonsensical, misaligned chain of command will defy any effort to impose familiar patterns on it, any patterns at all, really.

Our efforts to make sense of it will fail, but they will move us well beyond existing boundaries, definitions and patterns. Enigmas, paradoxes and dilemmas will multiply.

These unlikely planetary combinations, in an almost cartoon-like way, reflect our current experience back at us: we are struggling to maintain our important relationships and trying to keep a positive attitude in the face of often overwhelming challenges.  It reflects our experience in a way that forces us to re-think it, to re-think it deeply and radically.

As we begin to understand the absurdities in the current situation, our thoughts and emotions will become fertile ground for idealistic and revolutionary ideas.

Further Convolutions

The Sun, for its part, rules the house, or activities, dispositor.  All the activities in the chart would seem, then, to serve the ego-oriented purposes of the Sun, Leo and 5th house.

Since Neptune, is in the 5th house, the Sun’s natural house, that would seem to give the Sun some leverage in the chart.

But in astrology various signs, along with their houses and planets, rule other signs, houses and planets.  As it happens, Pisces (and Neptune and the 12th house) rules Leo ( and the 5th house and the Sun).

This cancels out any apparent leverage the Sun would seem to have over Neptune. The balance of power tips decisively in Neptune’s favor.

A strong, strongly Neptunian influence emanates from a house that Neptune also governs. The Sun, our ego, might have a say, but there is little doubt that Neptune will rule. Any advantage it might seem to have is illusory.

Finally,
in practice, all these  overly subtle astrological relationships will make the logic of events that much more convoluted and, well, Neptunian.

Shared Power

In the energy dispositor chart, Uranus, Mars and Mercury stand between the Sun and  Neptune.  So Neptune shares its rulership of the Sun with, or delegates its rulership of the Sun to - Mercury, Mars, and Uranus. So although Neptune ultimately governs the Sun (the ego), the Sun (the ego) brings a feisty and rebellious, Uranian spirit to the table.

You Have Just Left Kansas

Midpoint pictures usually point to some common characteristic in our experience of the chart.  In February, by far the most prominent midpoint picture is dominated by Uranus: Uranus exactly conjunct the midpoint of Jupiter and Neptune.

Jupiter brings its usual optimism and confidence to the table; Neptune brings its dreams, imaginings and aspirations.  But Uranus, the deciding planet, confronts both with newly emerging realities.  Our confidence and our aspirations are likely to rest on old assumptions, old assumptions that Uranus will upend, abruptly and without warning.

Uranus will upset confidence, imaginings and assumptions with new, as yet unsuspected realities. What we think and hope will be unceremoniously replaced by what is.

So, February’s chart will dramatically shift the foundations of our individual and shared realities. It will hold a mirror to our innermost thoughts and feelings. It will liberate us from outdated patterns.  All of this will possess a certain playful charm, or at least a certain poetic justice.

Most will take all this in the proper spirit. Many of us will enjoy this process of liberation.  Narratives of personal liberation will continue to play out.

But protest and reform efforts will doubtless intensify and escalate in confrontation and violence. Dissolving and releasing old patterns is a messy business at best.  Many won’t handle it well.  Some will fall deeper into crisis.

Stress levels will continue to rise, generally.  The craziness factor will also increase.

On balance, though, many who have been hoping and praying for big changes will be heartened by events in February.

In any case, there really is no going back. The past is well and truly behind us, now.

Sun Sign Forecasts for February 2012

Astrology Forecast for February 2012

FOR EVERYONE ~ Unknown unknowns.  It will seem as if everything is changing at once.  At the same time, our ability to make sense of of things isn’t working like it should. The future won’t settle, or fall into familiar, recognizable patterns. There is time for experimentation and a few wrong turns, though.  The best approach is to stick to those things you absolutely know are true and do those things you absolutely know must get done. It’s OK to get a little reckless with what’s left over.

SIGN-BY-SIGN

♈ ARIES ~
Not yet.  Aries is dealing with weighty burdens.  You’ve lost old allies.  Even very close friends have weighed heavily as they made important adjustments in their lives.  Employees, family and others who depend on you are asserting their independence in awkward ways.  Some are striking out on their own. Authority figures are limiting your choices.  Before they lift these burdens, though, the planets need you to re-imagine your own possibilities. Take a playful approach.  Children and the young will help show you the way.

♉ TAURUS ~ New pathways. Financial momentum will surge modestly, but noticeably and reliably.  At the same time, you will see attractive new possibilities for the future. New ways to achieve financial or other, long-held goals will reveal themselves. Personal relationships will be a concern. New friends will be more adventurous than old ones, but they will also require greater freedom.  Don’t allow old relationship problems to hurt the growth of new friendships. Let them be part of the healing process. Others do share your concerns.

♊ GEMINI ~ Pathfinding. New possibilities are causing wild speculation. You know the possibilities are real and it’s necessary to do something new. But resources are limited, the road to success will be long, and unintended consequences are inevitable. Offer guidance, but don’t frustrate those who follow their heart or imagination rather than reason, per se. That will include some people in charge. You’d do better by just listening to people, however disorganized their thinking. Saying too much, no matter how reasonable, will only worsen the confusion.

♋ CANCER ~ New boundaries. You need to guide imaginative and high-spirited people along a complex path. They might not take orders well or take quickly to your kind of reason.  This will take patience and a lot of faith in the goodness of others. Luckily, your intuition is now in top form. Your intuition and their imagination and high spirits are a winning combination.  To succeed, you will have to set aside some of your own deepest fears and prejudices. Honest dialogue is the way forward.

♌ LEO ~ Reality check(s).  It’s time to update your skills. However, changeful and deceptive influences are affecting your financial and work life. Idealistic or speculative approaches will increase the confusion. The experts aren’t much help, either.  Simplicity and practicality are you best tools. On-the-job involvement will best reveal which skills are worth developing; a hands-on approach is the best way to improve them. Your flare for drama is enhanced by heightened intuition.  Others will appreciate your ability to express their concerns and illuminate their situations.

♍ VIRGO ~ Due diligence. Everything important in your life is subject to change now. The way forward is fraught with confusion. The powerful and lasting influence responsible for this changefulness is also affecting partnerships. Friends and partners will come and go with greater frequency. Expectations of you will shift constantly.  Be increasingly careful what you accept as factual. You must devote more time and energy to deciding who you are and what you stand for.  It’s best not to take anything or anyone at face value.

♎ LIBRA ~ Maintain boundaries. Librans are in better position to weather current turmoil than most. Financial prospects are slowly improving. But reality is catching up with many in your life. Increasingly people will look to you for help making sense of sudden upsets in their lives. You can help make tough decisions. You can also provide balance for those considering unconventional, poorly thought out solutions. But remain a little detached. You could easily be drawn into exhausting, open-ended commitments that offer no clear benefit to anyone.

♏ SCORPIO ~ Inspire positivity. Life is now presenting everyone with a dizzying array of possibilities, some good, some scary.  And attitude really will make the difference.  You are uniquely well-placed to tip the scales in favor of the good possibilities.  To do so, think positively yourself, but, perhaps more important, insist that others think positively. Scorpio is now beginning a lengthy cycle that puts you in harmony with mysterious and powerful forces. Mysterious forces will work mysteriously in your favor. Unusual experiences will enrich your life.

♐ SAGITTARIUS ~ Reality check. There are powerful and challenging influences at work in the heavens. Sagittarians are being more directly affected by all of these influences than the other Sun signs.  Home life could be challenging, friendships could be over-stimulating - wildly so. It will also take greater effort than usual to keep finances on track.  Don’t try too hard to make sense of events.  Instead, set your priorities using simple, tried and true criteria and stick to them. Don’t be swayed too much by the opinions others.

♑ CAPRICORN ~ Openings.  Things are becoming fluid in a good way. There is dialogue, however testy, and a pathway forward, however tentative. Stark economic realities are morphing into differences of opinion about how to proceed.  You know what the limits are and you have authority. But others know what they need and want. They can also resist your authority. You’ll have to give ground.  But you have advanced from a situation too desperate for politics to one in which good old fashioned politicking will bring results.

♒ AQUARIUS ~ Simplicity trumps complexity.  Strong but fickle financial currents could tempt you down uncertain financial pathways. If you aren’t careful it could end up costing you. Your best defense is to set simple, clear financial priorities and stick to them, no matter what.  You’re also entering one of the most challenging decision-making periods in your young life, fraught with dazzling temptations and real risks. You can’t escape at least some involvement. Just color inside the lines until you can see the big picture more clearly.

♓ PISCES ~ Kaleidoscopic. There is more information about future possibilities than you can absorb and even what you can absorb isn’t necessarily reliable. Meanwhile, things continue to change. You’ll need to plan your moves one at a time, and very carefully.  If you think you see a clear path forward, think again. Still, there’s opportunity to explore. In fact, most of the people you meet will be flirting with tantalizing possibilities. Explore along with them, but be careful about what you finally decide is worth doing.
