Sign-by-Sign Forecast for March 2013

Astrology Forecast for March 2013

FOR EVERYONE ~ March brings more, occasionally frantic maneuvering as we maneuver to keep finances, relationships and careers on course. And we tend to be affected by each other’s moods more easily than before. Everyone is feeling a little more vulnerable than they should, and a lot more defensive, too. Some soul searching is good, and we do need to worry a bit more about each other’s feelings. But some financial planning and renegotiation of terms will remove a lot of the pressure and prevent excess drama.

SIGN-BY-SIGN

PISCES ~ (Feb. 18 - Mar. 19) You’re feeling vulnerable on many levels and there’s too much on your mind. You’d probably rather hide away somewhere until you're feeling stronger and a few things blow over. Despite all that, you’ll most likely have to take important actions to keep your dreams and financial plans on track. This could involve standing alone against the world or require fateful discussions with authoritative people at home and/or in far off places. A resourceful new group of  allies will help you meet these challenges.

ARIES ~ (Mar. 20 - Apr. 18) Your plans are progressing, but they are drawing static from upstairs. On one level, the powers that be seem very much in tune with your ideas. They just have serious misgivings about costs and whether or not your plans are realistic. You need to show them that your plans fit the budget, that they will fulfill the intended purpose and that you can follow through. Do that and objections will evaporate. Your plans will evolve further as you satisfy these concerns. Develop new habits.

TAURUS ~ (Apr. 19 - May 19) Life’s waiting for you to make a move. You need to keep the money flowing, of course. But to succeed, you need to spend as much time figuring out who you are and what you really want as anything else. It’s not a matter of finding something that’s out there and fitting into it. It’s more about understanding who you are and creating a life around that. You are beginning a new cycle of growth and prosperity, but self-knowledge and self-healing will remain priorities.

GEMINI ~ (May 20 - June 19) You’re facing a chorus of contradictory appeals for economic fairness amidst a whirlwind of conflicting issues. The political cross-currents are unreal. No detailed plan will satisfy everyone, let alone inspire cooperation. But meeting these challenges will absolutely require cooperation. Return to fundamentals; choose a basic strategy that will provide economic opportunity for the greatest number.  Let people work out the details for themselves. They will end up cooperating in spite of themselves. You have enough leverage to ensure the outcome is fair to all.

CANCER ~ (June 20 - July 21) Cancer’s concern for others is uppermost, again. People are facing difficult and rapid changes with limited resources. You’re in less turmoil, though, and your mind is clearer. You firmly believe that others can stay within budget, make needed changes and come out better off. To help others figure out how, dig down past popular interpretations of the present situation. The ideas you find are likely to be unfamiliar, though, and you’ll need proceed gradually, case by case. Put your famous intuition into high gear.

LEO ~ (July 22 - Aug. 21) Leos are escaping the worst of current turmoil - mostly. However, economic conditions are taking a toll on family relationships. Present expectations are financially unrealistic; they are also outdated and no longer relevant. They probably weren’t well-thought out to begin with anyway. Huddle with family members and keep talking until you have redefined expectations. A heart-to-heart discussion about financial realities could avoid a lot of grief. You can’t just wait this rough spot out; Leo’s next economic growth cycle doesn’t start until July 2014.

VIRGO ~ (Aug. 22 - Sept. 21) Virgos may see more excitability among key associates. Terms like “emotional volatility” and “high anxiety” come to mind. Financial conditions are causing alarm, again. Stubborn issues need to be resolved before peace and stability can return. You aren’t directly involved, which allows detachment. You have insight into the problems and some leverage over the situation. You’ll also find it easier than before to tell the bosses what they need to hear. Use your advantages to help restore calm. Personal finances will ease by summer.

LIBRA ~ (Sept. 22 - Oct. 21) Many in your life are maneuvering frantically to stay afloat and on course in rough economic seas. Rumors are flying. Scandals are brewing. Lives are changing. Librans have a great advantage, though. They have the freedom to focus narrowly on their own financial challenges. They can more easily navigate today’s difficulties, too, finding opportunities where others find obstacles. People need clarity, now, and your efforts to bring clarity to your own financial situation will bring clarity for others. Others can successfully follow your example.

SCORPIO ~ (Oct. 22 - Nov. 20) Scorpios enjoy a surprising degree of leverage over the otherwise turbulent and worrisome world around them. You don’t have the answers. Nobody does, right now. But your personal efforts to achieve understanding are unusually fruitful and helpful to others. Hard choices must be made. It’s time to break old patterns and defy expectations. Your insights can help others make the needed break with the past in the least disruptive and most harmonious way, even if that involves defying authority or disappointing old, faithful allies.

SAGITTARIUS ~ (Nov. 21 - Dec. 20) New economic possibilities are rapidly emerging; a better life beckons. But the planets are requiring higher ethical standards along with the usual ingenuity and hard work. Your heart, your mind, and especially your conscience, are asking you to harmonize financial and ethical considerations more carefully than ever before. And more so than ever before, cutting ethical corners could cost you and others the success you all desire. However, the reward for giving your conscience the last word will be greater than you probably imagine.

♑ CAPRICORN ~ (Dec. 21 - Jan. 18) You should tread much more lightly than your confidence and optimism seem to warrant. Resistance to your ideas and the obstacles to your plans are greater than you think. And objections to your plans deserve your attention. Re-examine fundamental assumptions; rethink goals and methods. Work through the details with others. You will be surprised at how quickly resistance turns to agreement and cooperation. In the process, you will find that your own expectations for the future evolve in a more realistic and promising direction.

AQUARIUS ~ (Jan. 19 - Feb. 17)  Many things are interfering with your ability to make important decisions. Not the least of which is a level of defensiveness unusual for self-assertive Aquarians. People seem unwilling to take you at face value. Your conscience could also be troubling you about questionable behavior, dubious acts committed a long time ago. This is unusual advice for Aquarius, I know.  But you can compensate for these obstacles to clarity by consulting more often and more intensively with key associates and those in positions of power.

The Astrology of February 2013 and a Little Beyond

The Astrology of February 2013 and a Little Beyond

The Floodgates of Change

Recap

The December 2012 composite chart indicated that transformations at the macro-level would be increasingly linked to transformations at the individual level. Individuals would begin to reshape the world as they transform themselves. This focus continued in January and extends into February.

The composite chart for the first half of 2013 shows a further continuation of this trend.

February’s Chart

Beyond the Personal

February’s chart indicates a major turning point in the global battle between progressive and conservative forces. It pulls the rug out from under conservative forces. It empowers and inspires progressive forces.  It strongly and aggressively supports negotiation and compromise. But it also indicates protracted debate and delay.

February reveals the melting pot facet of the new planetary arrangement. Sharply opposed ideas, highly polarized positions will be softened. Boundaries will blur and melt.

Transforming Collective Awareness

Asteroids, centaurs, transneptunian objects and such, play an important role in February’s chart.

Ixion, Pholus and Quaoar are in Sagittarius in the 1st near the ASC. Ceres, Lilith and Vesta are in Gemini in the 7th, straddling the DSC. They form a rough opposition across the relationship axis.

These non-traditional indicators tend to govern shared attitudes and responsibilities. They shape ethics, morality, politics and shared economic assumptions, for example. Personal relationships are already stressed by confusing and disruptive influences. Ethical, political, philosophical and other abstract issues will now complicate them even further.

Indicator by Indicator

On a practical level, this opposition divides fairly neatly along gender lines.

The cluster around the Ascendant, all in the 1st house in Sagittarius, has a distinctly masculine flavor.

  • Ixion governs the public trust. It is often linked to treachery in high places. At this point in history, as in many others, more men occupy high office and such abuses are more closely associated with men.

  • Pholus governs our response to peer pressure; we might be ethical in private, but do we maintain our principles when pressured by peers? Pholus suggests cronyism and corrupt interpersonal networks, gangs and cliques. Once again, historically, predominantly masculine phenomena.

  • Quaoar governs the destruction of old forms, clearing the way for the creation of new ones. Quaoar is often linked to fixed patterns that help mask abuse. Here, it suggests efforts to adapt corrupt practices to suit new conditions.

Taken together, these indicators conjure up images of a corrupt, entrenched and, for the most part, still very masculine elite.

The cluster around the Descendant, all in Gemini, straddling the cusp of the 7nth house, has a distinctly feminine flavor:

  • Ceres is associated with birth, death and nourishment - the fundamental facts of physical existence. It has strong feminine and 8th house resonances. Here, it evokes the battle over nurturance and other traditionally feminine issues currently raging in many countries.

  • Lilith is is linked to women’s empowerment issues. Here, it resonates with the expanding and intensifying struggle for women’s rights around the globe.

  • Vesta is linked to feminine spirituality, idealism and militancy. Here, it clearly resonates with the increasing idealism and militancy of the women’s movement, broadly defined.

This cluster in the 7th in Gemini points to a resurgence of feminist politics. It acts as a direct counter to the entrenched, male-dominated forces represented by the cluster on the Ascendant.

We should expect confrontations over nurturance issues generally, often with women squared off against the male-dominated establishment.

Gender-based patterns deeply embedded in our collective awareness will change dramatically and forever.

Sagittarius is the US rising sign. The confrontation indicated by this opposition will be especially apparent in the US.

Out of the Past

But there’s more.

Nessus is part of a sprawling stellium (including Venus, Sun, Neptune, Chiron, Mars, Mercury and, nearby, Uranus and Pallas) in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th houses governing personal, grassroots finances, community and deep personal psychology. The houses are in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries, respectively.

Nessus represents deeply ingrained guilt arising from actions in past lives. A sense of shared guilt will predispose us to reform.

Opportunities + Resistance = Defiance

A combination of aspects virtually guarantee that people will break sharply with the past, even if it means openly defying authority and openly flouting tradition.

  • The composite Moon in Scorpio in the 12th forms a T-Square with the 2nd and 3rd house grouping (including Venus, Sun, Neptune, Chiron, Mars, Mercury and, nearby, Uranus and Pallas) and Jupiter in Gemini.

People realize that established community attitudes are blocking economic progress.

  • The composite Moon in Scorpio in the 12th trines Uranus and Pallas in the 4th. Uranus and Pallas are semi-sextile Jupiter in Gemini in the 6th.

We can align personal attitudes with new realizations. We can easily adapt to changes in the workplace to improve our economic prospects.

  • Saturn in Scorpio in the 11th, Pluto in Capricorn in the 1st and Neptune, Chiron, Mars and Mercury in Pisces in the 3rd form a small triangle.

People have confidence in their beliefs, in their power to heal and adjust to new circumstances. They are determined to move forward.

The T-square presents obstacles to economic progress from authority figures and established community attitudes. The trine and the sextile empower us to change our own attitudes in ways that insure our economic future. The triangle instills confidence and determination.

Combined, these aspects are bound to trigger defiance of authority in favor of one's own economic self-interest. The only thing standing in the way of economic betterment are a lot of outdated community attitudes.

Expect spirited resistance to authority from anyone, anywhere at anytime, including collective armed resistance.

But there’s more.

The Fogs of Change

February is drenched in mutable energy, increasingly so as the month progresses.

  • Mutable signs are on all the angles. Sagittarius is on the Ascendant, Pisces is on the Imum Coeli, Gemini is on the Descendant, Virgo is on the Midheaven. Mutable energy pours into the chart from its most sensitive points.

  • Mars, (2/4), Mercury (2/6), Sun (2/21) and Venus (2/28), the bodies that govern our basic attitudes and behaviors, all conjoin Neptune in February.

  • Saturn is stationary/retrograde in Scorpio on February 18; Mercury is stationary/retrograde in Pisces on February 23. The effects of retrogrades resemble the effects of the mutable signs.

Note also that Mercury is pretty mutable itself. It governs two mutable signs (Gemini and Virgo) and is retrograding in mutable Pisces. Mutable Neptune governs mutable Pisces and is in Pisces. Mercury’s retrograde will amplify the already high levels of mutability in February.

The aspects discussed above indicate confrontation, rebellion and even insurrection. Doubtless there will be some of that.

However, all this mutability indicates adaptability, compromise, and negotiation on the one hand, and delays, confusion and complications on the other. Stationary/retrograde Saturn virtually guarantees that nothing important will get past the discussion phase.

So we can’t expect a quick, clear cut resolution of issues in February. People are feeling rebellious but the planets suggest that this feeling will move us away from  confrontation and toward discussion and negotiation.

Defiant people will find a willingness to “work things out” from those they thought would oppose them.

Those who fear the consequences of defiance can draw encouragement from the mutability of February. They are more likely to find accommodation than resistance. They are more likely to trigger change than incur punishment. Just don’t expect immediate or clear cut results.

Long Term Trends

Recent charts, including February’s, indicate a progressive, populist trend. Two things indicate that this is a continuing, long-term trend.

  • Saturn is headed further into governmental and institutional signs - Scorpio thru Pisces. It will take roughly 12 years for Saturn to return to the grassroots signs).

  • The North Node, currently in Scorpio, is headed backwards into grassroots signs, Libra thru Aries. It will take roughly 14 years for the North Node to return to the governmental signs.

For more than a decade, under Saturn’s auspices, governments and other large institutions and organizations will receive increasingly harsh scrutiny. For a couple of years more, the grassroots will possess greater moral authority and, thus, greater leverage. Sentiment and the momentum of events will favor the grassroots.

All of the above is an astrological recipe for progressive reforms favorable to the grassroots and to women. It spells continuous setbacks for conservatives and those who occupy the halls of political and economic power.

Lives in Transition

As I have so often said in the past, the overall direction of events is progressive and beneficial. However, change is always difficult; even mature, strong people struggle with it; many people just do not handle it well at all. Many nations, too, find change especially difficult.

These powerful, and powerfully transformative vibes are profoundly disruptive psychologically. Many of us will find ourselves exhausted. A great many of us will experience disruptive, life-changing events, or witness them in the lives of family, friends and co-workers. Others, hopefully a minority, will act out in bizarre, disruptive and sometimes violent ways. A great many nations will experience turmoil.

Never doubt that we are undergoing a global awakening. This is what global awakenings look like.
